Porcelain Veneers
Your teeth perform some different, critical, functions, every single day. In addition to biting, chewing, and speaking, the teeth also play an integral aesthetic part in your mouth, helping to create your smile. Any damage to your teeth, no matter how small, can have a major impact on the quality of your smile as well as your confidence. If your teeth are affected by minor damages, Sussex Dental can help with porcelain veneers.
What Exactly Are Veneers?Minor flaws in your teeth can have a major impact on the appearance of your smile. When your smile is affected, your confidence is affected as well. Veneers are a cosmetic treatment designed to correct the appearance of teeth affected by minor imperfections. They are small, shell-like structures that are bonded to the fronts of the damaged teeth, effectively covering over the flaws and restoring the beautiful appearance to your smile.
What Issues Can Veneers Correct?Veneers can be used to correct the appearance of teeth affected by some different minor imperfections, including:• |
Small chips and cracks in the enamel.
|
• |
Minor alignment issues such as gaps or slight overlapping.
|
• |
Small or misshapen teeth.
|
• |
Discoloration. |
The Benefits of PorcelainVeneers are made from either composite resin or porcelain. All of our veneers are made from porcelain. While both materials are tooth-colored, porcelain more closely mimics the enamel of your natural teeth. Not only can porcelain be stained and finished to perfectly match the color of your natural teeth, but it also reflects light in a similar fashion to tooth enamel. Porcelain is also stronger and has a longer lifespan. Where composite resin lasts 7 to 10 years, porcelain lasts 15 years or longer. Other benefits of porcelain veneers include:• |
Porcelain is biocompatible. This means that it will not irritate your gum tissue.
|
• |
Porcelain is stain resistant. Composite resin is porous, which enables it to collect stains. Once stained, composite resin cannot be whitened. Porcelain, on the other hand, is stain resistant. In fact, it can resist stains better than natural tooth enamel.

With porcelain, no one will be able to tell the difference between the veneers and your natural teeth. |
Getting Your Porcelain VeneersTo get porcelain veneers, we first need to prepare the affected teeth. This process, which is done under a local anesthetic, involves removing a small portion of the enamel from the front surfaces of the teeth to be treated. While porcelain veneers are thin, removing just a portion of the enamel ensures that the restorations sit in naturally with the rest of your teeth, reducing the potential for a bulky, uncomfortable feel.
After the teeth are prepared, we then take impressions of your mouth. These impressions are sent to our dental lab. The lab uses these impressions to custom design your veneers and fabricates them. Once they are finished, we check them for fit, bite, and for comfort and then bond them into place, restoring your beautiful smile. If minor flaws have affected the appearance of your smile, porcelain veneers can help.
